GRNNA impending strike

GRNMA impending strike

Summary of the reasons:

Nurses and midwives welfare is now or never!

1. Unpaid salary arrears and related issues
-working for 16 to 30 months without a pesewa from government
-validated but not paid
-shortpaid or underpaid
-over 2,000 nurses and midwives salary arrears unpaid
-3 months salary policy making life difficult
-promotional arrears unpaid
-why should we work for years and only 3 months salary paid?
Where is the labour act?

WE SAY BIG NO TO 3 MONTHS SALARY POLICY,  REVERT TO OLD SYSTEM OF FULL BACKPAY OF OUR SALARIES AND OUTSTANDING ARREARS

*2. Unposted graduate Nurses and Midwives*
- You can't train and bond large number of nurses and midwives and ask them to get job at the private sector. It is difficult.
- Many government trained nurses and midwives are still home wasting their nursing and midwifery skills
- Government must train the number that the health system requires in order to ensure the absorption of the qualified ones from government institutions and even the private institutions
*3. - Charging of promotion interview fees*
    - sale of intention forms
    - sale of study leave  forms
    - sale of upgrading forms
Is the health sector now turning into Makola market or Kumasi central market?
All the above practices are against the signed Conditions of service

*4. Promotion issues*
- Community Health Nurses and Enrolled Nurses have worked for more than 5 years without promotion. Meanwhile,  they are to have their first promotion after 3 years of work. What have we done wrong?
*-  The quota for the top-up for Community and Enrolled nurses is woefully inadequate.* The quota must be increased!

*5. Collapsing Psychiatric Hospital /Inadequate Logistics at Government Health Facilities*
- Nurses and midwives use their own monies to buy some of these logistics. Why?
- Psychiatric Nurses lives are endangered since they have no secured environment.  Psychiatric patients are attacking and causing injuries to the nurses there, because they are no medical logistics to manage their psychosis.
- Gloves are counted for midwives to do deliveries.
- We need sufficient medications,  thermometers, BP Apparatus,  disinfectants, gloves,  cotton wool,  gauze,  dressing instruments,  bed sheets, etc

*6. Second Tier Pension Scheme Mirage*
- Government, please where is our 5 percent tier 2 monthly deduction?
- Government please obey the court settlement and release the monies for its purpose.

*7. Implementation of GRNMA collective Bargaining Agreement*
- We want to see the full implementation of the Conditions of Service now!
- Pay the allowances stated in the COS from the consolidated fund just like being done for other health professionals.

*8. Allowances of Student Nurses and Midwives*
- We call on government to pay the allowances now, as the President promised.
- We expect by this month or November ending, the trainees allowance will be paid.
BUT NOT A PITTANCE OF GHC 150.
- we demand that Government must pay them NOT LESS THAN GHC 500 MONTHLY THROUGH THEIR RESPECTIVE BANKS.
- Reasons : trainees pay huge fees ranging GHC 3,800 and GHC 4,600 in first semester, and an average of GHC 2,000 in subsequent semesters, they pay clinical fees for clinical attachment, buy their own consumables, hire accommodation for clinicals outside their training institutions.

- The dialogue is now over,  we now think otherwise

# Nurses and midwives should all take note of the road map of action and actively join the action to uphold our welfare :

*ROADMAP*

*1st to 6th November,*  2016 - *Wearing of Red Bands*

*7th to 13th November,* 2016 - *Withdrawal of OPD services* (only emergency and maternity cases will be received)

UNITY IS STRENGTH!!!💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
